Wishes for my Daughters

Story Time / Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018

These are things I wish to instill in my Daughters:

1- Don’t care about people’s opinions who don’t matter or bring you down.

You don’t need those types of people in your life, stick with positive uplifting people who share your kindness and generosity with the world, there are enough jaded and cruel people out there, no need to surround yourself with more.

2- Always remember where you came from.

I’m not talking about culture or religion here (although that’s important too). I’m saying remember the little moments in life. Houses you’ve lived in and memories shared there. Remember where you went to elementary school, high school, and college. Remember those memories and don’t forget that you’re never too old to come back home.

3- Trust in yourself.

Sometimes you’re going to doubt yourself, you’re going to beat yourself up over something but just remember that it’s ok to be hard on yourself but you also have to look past that and trust in yourself to make it out okay. Trust in yourself when it comes to boys, jobs, friends, etc. Trust your gut feeling. It is rarely wrong.

4- Weight is just a number.

Your mom is still working on this wish for herself but I want you to know that weight is just a number. It doesn’t define who you are as a person. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. As long as you are a good person who cares for others, that’s what counts. Not the number on a scale. Focus on how you feel inside. Concern yourself more with being healthy and happy with yourself. It’s about being content with the person you’re becoming.

5- Be honest.

Sometimes this is easier said than done. It’s hard to be honest sometimes, especially when you don’t want to hurt someones feelings. But from my experience, it’s better to be truthful and honest in the beginning than lie and they find out later-that hurts worse. Be gentle with people’s feelings when your being honest but always just be honest with others and with yourself.

6- Love yourself.

Lastly, love yourself. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow yourself room to mess up, but just remember that mess ups can be cleaned up. Love yourself first before allowing others to love you. Because unless you love yourself, then it will be hard for you to allow someone else to get close enough to love you as well. Your father and I love you, always have and always will. And our hope is that you love yourself just as much as we do too.
