Every mom is different and what they consider comfy varies, but here are some of the best postpartum clothes that I think look chic without trying too hard.
I have implemented a resolution this year to try and look more put together even as a SAHM (stay at home mom).
I have decided I want to look past the typical leggings and grunge shirts.
Although don’t get me wrong I love me some black leggings and I do still live in those, but I’m looking to “dress it up” my every day outfits a bit.
Here’s what I mean:
Swapping baggy over-sized sleep shirts for V-neck t shirts or cute graphic tees.
I realized how much better a plain colored V-neck or crew neck shirt looks than an oversized sleep shirt.
I went to Target and found these super soft and comfy t-shirts for $8 (or $5 on sale!).
Now I do buy the t-shirts a size up because I do love an “oversized” look but I’m not swimming in them! They are just a little bigger to hide that mommy pooch!
I basically got one in every color to help boost my wardrobe and also my confidence.
When I feel like I look better, I instantly boost confidence and my self-esteem! And when that is higher, I feel like I have a more productive day.
Jeggings.
Now some may be rolling their eyes at me at this point, but hear me out.
I used to think jeggings were weird until I found these ones at Sam’s Club for $16.
They look like actual jeans, even have back pockets like jeans, but they are stretchy and comfy like leggings.
They also help boost an outfit into a more put-together look.
Stretch Jeans.
Now these are different than jeggings.
These are actual jeans, but that have a little give to them. I love jeans with a bit of stretch because lets face it, after having kids, nothing is the same.
Skin is looser, you may or may not have a tummy pooch, or you’re just feeling a bit less confident lately. This is where jeans with stretch come in.
They give the ability to wear “real jeans” and yet still being comfortable to breathe in without needing 3 pairs of spanx to fit.
Cardigans and Sweaters.
These items are very similar so I grouped them together. These are staple items for me because they add a little bit of flare to a plain-jane outfit.
Throw on a cute fuzzy cardigan or sweater and instantly boost a legging and t-shirt outfit.
These are more of a fall/winter look, but this would also work on a chilly spring or summer evening if you got a thinner cardigan/sweater to throw on over your outfit to boost your look.
Jewelry.
Now in all honesty, I still struggle to remember this one because I’m not much of a jewelry person.
I basically only wear my wedding ring every day and then maybe throw on some earring studs and a necklace if I’m going out somewhere and want to look real fancy (insert laughing and exaggeration here).
I know for most this is a duh one but since I am not a big jewelry wearer, I always forget how much even just a necklace and/or bracelet can boost an outfit and take it from dull to daaaamn!
Hair and Makeup.
Okay this one isn’t technically wardrobe but I felt inspired enough to add it in anyways. Now I’m not saying you have to go full on glam makeup, not at all!
All I’m saying is, at least for me, when I throw on a bit of concealer and mascara, I feel like I can take over the world.
A bit dramatic but hopefully you get what I mean. Just throwing on a bit of makeup, whatever you love or is your go-to whether simple as just mascara, or as glam as a night on the town.
Do whatever makes YOU feel better and more confident.
On the plus side too, even if your outfit isn’t the cutest or most chic, a bit of makeup and hair done (by done for me usually just means not thrown in a pathetic looking bun), can make the outfit even better and make you look more put-together.
However if you do love the bun look, I got these bun-makers that instantly add volume and BAM to your bun to make it a more styled and chic bun style.
Cute & Comfy Shoes.
Now usually in the summer months I live in flip-flops.
But you could dress up any summer look by swapping out the grungy worn out flip-flops with some cute sandals instead, like these from Target are my favorite and go-to sandals for summer.
In winter I love a good boot, but comfort is a must. I’m running errands and chasing kids around, no one has time for a high-heel or cute over-the-knee style boot (if you do then do-you boo!).
For me, a cute and comfy boot are these faux fur lined boots from Target or UGG. These style boots are the cutest and so comfy! I wear mine literally almost every day in the winter.
They match everything and can make an outfit even chicer and more in-style than just tennis shoes or grunge flip-flops.
Black Leggings.
Last but not least, black leggings.
THEE staple items for moms everywhere. But I will say, invest in a good pair, or at the least find a good pair that you love that make you look and feel your best!
Because when moms feel their best, they do their best and everyone benefits from that. One side note to add, when you find that perfect pair of black leggings, do the squat test.
Please.
Please make sure when you squat down or bend over, you don’t show the whole world what’s underneath.
If they show, wear a long tunic or shirt to hide the backside. The world will thank you
Hopefully these best postpartum clothes have helped you gain some ideas on how to transform your plain-Jane mom wardrobe into something you feel confident and comfy in to rock your mommy world!
