Summer is here and what better way to relax and cool off than swimming!! But swimming can be super stressful for parents with little ones who can’t swim yet. This is why you need the best baby swimming gear.
I love swimming! I guess it’s the Pieces in me! So when I had my daughter I knew I wanted to take her swimming and have her fall in love with the water like I did! So when she was about 10 months old, we decided to take her to the local lake. And with this baby swimming gear, it was the best time!

Now she of course didn’t know how to swim and I didn’t feel comfortable holding her the entire time in the lake.
I wanted to be able to have my hands free for emergencies. So a quick google search for swimming floaters for babies and I came across this one.
This floater has a shade cover too to protect your little one from those harsh sun rays! This floater has 2 different inflatable little rings to help keep it afloat.
You just manually blow those up and it’s ready to use. Super simple and quick!
Once it’s all unfolded and blown up, you place baby in the center, one leg in each leg hole, and you’re ready to enjoy the water.
Of course I always am right there next to her.
NEVER LEAVE YOUR BABY UNATTENDED IN THE WATER. NO MATTER WHAT!
I never leave her alone in this floater and I always make sure I’m right there holding an edge just in case.
(For the purposes of this photo, I let go of the edge for a quick second for my sister in law to snap the photo but I was standing right there outside of the frame)
I still use this Swimways Baby Spring Float now with my second daughter this summer in a friends pool.
This floater makes playing in the water with your little one all the more fun! It gave me a chance to relax and not have to worry about holding her the whole time!
She loved being in it and had a blast splashing around!
This is especially helpful if you have more than one kiddo you’re trying to watch in the water.
My oldest is 3.5 and can swim but wants me to constantly watch her swim and wants to jump to me off the edge.
This floater allows me to watch my oldest swim while being in the water with my little one in the floater.
Gives me the ability to keep my hands free for both kids to stay safe in the water.
Disclaimer: I will say that if you have a super mobile child like my 16 month old who tried to climb out of the floater, then you shouldn’t use this item.
I took her out once she started to lose interest and wanted to stand on the step like her big sister.
(Both my kids are also in swim lessons and continue to learn and practice swimming).
You have to be watching your child at all times. They are quick.
PROS:
- Sun shade to protect against sun rays
- Easy and quick setup and take down
- breathable material
- floats great and keeps baby’s upper body out of water
- allows baby to explore water with parent supervision
- under $20 at Target
CONS:
- Mobile/active climbers baby’s can climb out if they are motivated enough so gauge your child accordingly
Overall, this item has made for some fun summers and this has been a helpful tool for the water.
