Summer quickly approaching means more people over & more BBQs. The one thing you don’t want in the house this summer is bugs. So how to keep bugs out of house this summer?
Bugs are very annoying, especially when you are trying to relax in the evening enjoying the breeze but you want to keep bugs out of house.
There are many different ways you may have tried keeping bugs out like door screens, monthly pest control, or even one of those salt shooters.
While those things are helpful, they may not be in the cards for you this summer or maybe you don’t want to have to have a salt shooter on hand while you’re trying to watch a summer movie. So you may still. be sitting there thinking how to keep bugs out of house in summer?
I like placing drops of peppermint oil in the doorways of our house, bugs hate peppermint oil. You can also place soapy water on baseboards and at the entry ways for ants, they hate soapy water too.
Peppermint oil works great for the crawling bugs but what about the ones that fly?
Personally, I have been loving and seeing results using the Katchy insect trap for the flying bugs.
I got it on Amazon and it was relatively inexpensive. It is $40 and it comes with 4 sticky pads so you can use it for months before having to repurchase the sticky pads.
Here is how the Katchy keeps bugs out of the house.
Well it doesn’t KEEP them out of the house, but it does get rid of them once they are inside. Truthfully I don’t think there is any way to fully 100% keep bugs from getting inside but I love this way to get rid of them once they are inside.
The Katchy is an insect trap that uses UV light to draw the insect to it and there is a slight fan that sucks the bug inside and it sticks to the sticky mat on the bottom.
You don’t see any of this of course so it is very stylist and blends with any home decor. It comes in a white and black color options so whatever your house vibe is, it can blend effortlessly.
This machine is perfect for fruit flies, gnats, mosquitos and no-see-ums. It plugs in so no need for batteries. It does however work best at nighttime in the dark so the bugs are attracted to the UV light.
PROS:
- catches insects without sprays or harsh chemicals inside the home
- uses UV light and plugs in, no need for batteries
- works quickly
- quiet fan
- reasonable price for 4 sticky pads and machine
- comes in white and black to mesh with any home decor
- simple and elegant design
CONS:
- works better at nighttime so you will have to wait until dark so bugs are attracted to the UV light
- pads can fill up quickly if you have a big infestation
- have to rebuy the sticky pads
Overall the peppermint oil trick and the Katchy insect trap has really helped keep the bugs out of house in summer. I love that both options are natural and don’t involve any harsh chemicals being sprayed.
