Being a mom and being healthy feels like it should be its own “healthy moms” club or something. It feels like everyone can do it but you, right? You hop on the healthy moms wagon but then something always derails it amiright?
It doesn’t have to be that way! You can be in the “healthy moms” club and not break yourself trying to get there.
Being a healthy mom doesn’t necessarily mean you have a 6-pack, killer arms, and still manage to do all-the-things. If you do, then good for you mama!
If not, then I’m here to give some helpful and maybe not-so-traditional advice on what healthy moms do.
Self-Care
This one is hard for us mamas for some reason. We can wear ourselves thin taking care of everyone else, even the dog and neighborhood before we manage to take care of ourselves.
Not sure why this happens, but its a thing that needs to stop!
Stop and fill up your own cup mama. I mean literally if you want to, but I’m speaking metaphorically.
Fill up your own self-love and self-care cup before giving away your last drop to everyone else.
The more you fill your cup, the more it overflows onto other cups (people). So take care of yourself first.
Not sure where to start?
I got you covered. Read here for my Self-Care Tips for Moms.
Find a Hobby
This hobby can be something as complex as learning to sew or crochet (I can’t for the life of me get the hang of that), or as simple as photography, gardening, DIY crafting, or painting.
It can even be a physical hobby like a sport (golfing or running) or learning to box.
Find something that you can do, JUST FOR YOU!
This will keep you mentally healthy and also give you that break from the kids and household things.
CrateJoy even has these boxes of crafty adult things to do if you don’t know exactly what hobby you want to dive into.
Just make sure whatever hobby it brings you happiness.
Join a Group Activity
Whether that is a group sport like adult soccer (my husband did that and LOVED it before he broke his leg) or something like mommy stroller walks.
It doesn’t have to be a solo activity. You can include kids on this one because chances are, its hard to get away from the kids all the time.
This way you can join a mommy group and give yourself some adult conversation time while the kiddos get some play time with other kids. Win-win!
Enjoy Date Nights
Even if you have kids, you still need some time away just you and your significant other.
You need that time to reconnect, recharge, and maybe just maybe have a bit of fun without the kids. This is a must in the healthy moms “club”.
If you can’t physically get out of the house for whatever reason, you can do date nights at home after the kids go to bed.
Whether that is a nice dinner with some wine, or a movie with some popcorn just make sure you are enjoying the time together.
Another amazing option is Date Night In Boxes. These boxes come with everything you need for a fun date night right at home.
Best part? They get delivered straight to you! (They even have kid night boxes that you can give the babysitter to do with the kids if you do get to leave the house).
Switch Up the Foods
Now I struggle with this one as much as the next mom. I love my sweets and ice cream is my weakness.
I’m not saying skip out on all the yummy things you crave. NO!
What I’m saying is balance it out. Choose which yummy treats you are going to have and try to make a conscious effort to eat healthier options.
I even traded in my regular ice cream for Halo Top and I honestly now prefer the Halo Top after years of having it.
Making small adjustments can help kick start the healthy eating habits. Don’t try and cold turkey everything at once because you will probably be setting yourself up for failure.
Ease into the healthy eating and think of it as a lifestyle change instead of a diet.
“Diet” tends to have a negative connotation and can give negative reactions/feelings/vibes and that’s why most people end up quitting on their “diets”.
Think of it as a healthy moms lifestyle you are trying to gain to give yourself that energy to keep up with those kids or to live a longer healthy life to play with grandkids one day and see if that helps.
Take Your Vitamins
This goes hand-in-hand with the healthy foods, you need to make sure you are getting all the right nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.
Thankfully Care/of has got you covered. You take a quick 5 minute quiz and they will give you what they recommend your body needs or is lacking based on your responses.
It’s pretty cool! My husband and I both did this and its pretty awesome. Now we didn’t actually order the vitamins from the company, we went to our local Target and picked up some of the big ones we were lacking like Magnesium and Vitamin D.
But I would recommend Care/of because they come in individually packaged daily doses which makes things way easier. Plus use code VITAMIN50 for 50% off your first order.
Hopefully these items gave you some ideas of things to try or implement into your daily life to make you part of the healthy moms tribe!
We all need to be healthy moms for our little ones out there and show them how to be healthy themselves.
