Breastfeeding Tips for New Mom

Welcome to this incredible journey mama! Breastfeeding is a wonderful experience, but it can also be quite stressful. Here are some breastfeeding tips for new mom, from some experienced moms.

Below are some breastfeeding tips for new mom from moms who have been through the trenches of breastfeeding who’d like to share their tips they learned along the way.

Try Not to Stress

Getting stressed could cause your supply to become all wonky. I remember I was so stressed out about breastfeeding and being able to make enough supply for the demand actually caused my supply to dry up faster because I was so stressed out and worried.

With my second, I didn’t stress about it and was actually able to breastfeed longer.

Fed is Best

If for some reason you aren’t able to breastfeed or not breastfeed for a long time, formula is always another option. Both my girls were formula fed and it was less stressful on everyone, including myself.

They were happy, healthy, and most of all they weren’t hungry. That’s the important part.

Savor the Moment

“Breastfeeding is hard. It’s emotionally exhausting. 2AM feeds when you feel like you just closed your eyes are physically exhausting.

With all of that being said, you’ll truly miss the luxury of holding your sweet baby close to your chest. You’ll miss their little hand reaching up for you.

This time is sweet, so try to give yourself grace and enjoy these moments. Before you know it they’re onto sippy cups and table food only!”

Make the Experience Relaxing

“Fed is best.  As a pediatric registered nurse I feel obliged to say this.  For me and my family. Breastfeeding without a set end in sight was best.  I breastfed my son for 13 months.  It was the best 13 months of my life and honestly we had no issues.

I don’t for one second take this experience for granted as I know how many mothers experiences are exactly the opposite.  If I could give one piece of advice that is attributed to this amazing experience, aside from my pre-knowledge of breastfeeding, it would be my relaxed demeanor.

Breastfeeding and the production of milk is not only related to your baby’s suck and your body’s ability to produce milk, but also your emotional and physical state.  If you are constantly stressed and uptight when trying to feed, your baby and your body can feel this.

Before the baby comes, create a breastfeeding corner.  In this corner you can totally get in the zone to relax.  Have your phone, your water, your reading book, etc and just let loose and allow your body and your baby to truly connect on a deeper level.”

Invest in Comfy Clothing

I highly suggest getting clothes that are functional and comfy for breastfeeding.

There are a ton of places to get comfy lounge wear, but you also want to make sure it is easily accessible to breastfeed if you don’t want to lift your entire shirt to do so.

Also a comfortable nursing bra is a must! Even if you don’t breastfeed for long, those bras are comfy! I wore mine long after I stopped breastfeeding!

Kindred Bravely has some adorable nursing bras and tops! They have bras ranging from nursing and pumping bras to busty and specialty bras. Definitely worth checking out!

They also have some cute bundle sets too! Plus they are currently offering Nursing Tank + FREE Simone Nursing Wrap now through 12/2020.

Hopefully these tips from other mothers and myself have eased your mind a bit about breastfeeding. Taking it one day at a time and just remembering fed is best is always the best advice we could give.
