Kids seem have a infinite amount of energy, but especially before bedtime right? In order to burn some of that energy, there are evening activities for kids to do to wind down.

If you want to keep kids in bed, I recommend reading this post.

Burning kids energy before bedtime can help them get a better nights sleep. After you get their energy out, you can take a moment afterwards to wind them down and then it will be time for bedtime.

Dance Party

Put on some music and let the kids go crazy!

Or if you don’t want them to just go crazy all over the house, you can put on a YouTube kids dance-a-long or sing-a-long video for them to follow along to and burn some energy.

This always helped my kids burn some energy before it was time to wind down before bed.

Having an Amazon Echo Show (or a Echo Dot) in the kitchen or living room has helped us! The kids can even tell her what song they want to dance along to also!

Get Outside

Even if it is just for a quick 10-15 minutes run around the backyard or ride bikes, just something to get them outside and moving. That will help burn that energy.

Fresh air can burn more energy just being out in the fresh air and not just stuck inside.

Indoor Obstacle Course

If you can’t get outside, you can make an obstacle course inside with pillows and blankets or toys in order to jump over or crawl under and have the kids race for time.

Creating an obstacle course even just a simple one can get kids mind as well as body moving to burn some energy with some evening activities.

Go on a Family Walk

This goes hand in hand with the get outside idea, but instead of having them run like crazy, maybe just take a walk around the neighborhood in the evening and have them point out objects that you find. Like an iSpy type game.

They will love looking around and it will get their minds working and get them to focus and calm down.

Family Games

Another idea for evening activities for kids would be to play a family game together.

This gives you all an opportunity to get together as a family, even if the game is only 30 minutes long. Its a way for the family to connect together and get the kids to play nicely together instead of running around like monkeys in a zoo.

If your kid has EXTRA energy in the evening, some may call this the witching hour, then maybe play a game that excerpts some energy. Something like the wii or some type of movement game to get the wiggles out before bedtime.

Bath Time

Another way you can get your kids to wind down after they get some energy out is to take a relaxing bath.

You can even add some essential oils to the bath, like lavender, in order to make the bath even more calming and relaxing before bedtime.

Getting that energy burnt out with evening activities for kids before bedtime can help them get a good nights sleep and bring some calm before bedtime.
