Hair growth can be challenging, especially as a mom and postpartum. Most tips for hair growth can sometimes seem time consuming and way too long of a process. Well these are friendly mom tips for hair growth.
Just because you are a mom does not mean you have to put yourself last.
You need some mom tips in your life to help give you the quickest way to get in some of that self care everyone is always talking about.
Especially when it comes to your hair. I struggled with postpartum hair loss like most women after giving birth. I found that I was always “too busy” to really care or notice.
Until one day, I did notice.
And boy was I floored. I wanted luxuriously voluminous and soft shiny hair. Which didn’t seem possible at the time.
So my mom tips to get you to that soft, shiny, luxurious hair are below.
Did you know that everyones hair type, texture, and scalp are different? I didn’t before I started researching and learning more about my hair type and scalp needs. This is why the “salon brands” don’t always work, or they don’t last. Hair care isn’t a one-size-fits-all product line. Each hair type is different.
For example, a curly hair gal doesn’t need a smoothing shampoo, they’d need a hydrating one. Their styling products should allow for hydration of their hair and products that will help bring out the curls to life and boost that curl.
This is why working with someone who knows hair is important and getting a custom routine is a bonus. It doesn’t cost more to use the right products for your scalp type and need. Oily scalps need to balance the ph in their scalp which means they don’t need a drying product on their scalp because that will just make your scalp over-produce oil.
Some supplements actually can boost hair growth, like collagen. Collagen starts to lessen as we get older, like mid 20s our natural supply/production of collagen gets less and less which is why its so important to take a quality collagen for skin, nail and most importantly hair growth.
Who would think that brushes could help or hurt our hair growth. Brushes that pull and tug will damage the hair, you need brushes that not only detangle but can help hair stay stronger. Personally I love the wet detangler brush, both my kids and myself use this brush and its been a game changer. Look for a brush that is “airy” meaning it wont get mold build up and can fully air out after brushing wet hair.
You wouldn’t mop the floor before sweeping would you? Well this is why you need to shampoo twice. Hear me out, it will make sense. Think of your scalp like your kitchen floor. You wouldn’t mop it before sweeping away the dirt, debris, and junk off the floor correct? Well washing your hair should be the same concept. You shampoo once to break up the junk, to sweep away the build up from products and dry shampoo. Then you rinse that out and shampoo again to actually CLEAN the scalp! This second shampoo will actually be the one to cleanse the scalp and give you that clean feeling. This is why its so important to shampoo twice. Once is only sweeping away the debris, its not actually cleaning.
Using less heat like straightening or curling irons, can help hair growth. Less heat damage means more healthy growth on your hair and overall will keep the work you are doing to cleanse properly and using quality products. If you must use heat, then 100% use a good quality heat protectant.
If you can, try and go longer between washes. This is another reason while getting a specific hair routine for your hair needs, will help you go longer between washes. (and bonus, your products will last longer, saving more money in the long haul). If you do tend to get oily hair after day 2-3 then I suggest a quality dry shampoo that doesn’t contain propane, isotane, or any of the “ane”s. These are flammable and you’d be surprised how many dry shampoo brands have those products in their ingredients list. This is why I switched to my Monat dry shampoo.
This has become a popular trend on social media as of lately. While there are many benefits to using an oil treatment before washing your hair, the quality of hair oils majorly differs. Personally I love my Rejuvenique oil that has 13+ blends of essential oils and is natural to help balance the pH of your scalp to actually help hair growth, to help unclog pores on your scalp, and to overall help your hair. I love oil treatments, they have completely transformed my hair growth and my scalp health, which has made me grow healthier, stronger hair.
While these mom tips make seem like they take a ton of time, trust me when I say I’m a mom of two girls in school which means different school activities, sports, I’m on the PTA, I run my own business, I’m a wife and running a household as well. So I don’t have time for multi-step routines that every day I have to do before I can go on with my day.
My routine takes one day and maybe 1-2 hours depending on if I blow dry my long, thick hair straight or let it naturally air dry, both which turn out great because of my routine and products. So take one self-care day to yourself for hair wash day and have a style and wash that last an entire week.
