Best Pacifier for Newborns

There are definitely a million different options out there for pacifiers. It gets a little overwhelming and each baby prefers something different, at least each of my kids did. Below is my reasoning behind choosing the best pacifier for newborns.

Babies are fickle creatures, am I right?

They want what they want when they want it. It is hard to know which is the best pacifier for newborns.

My oldest would pretty much take any pacifier, but definitely preferred the Dr. Browns pacifier, which was the first one we tested, because we could stick our finger inside and she would go to town on it.

My youngest however proved difficult to find a pacifier that she’d take.

We bought about 3 different brands of pacifiers, including testing the one her older sister preferred. None seemed to work for her.

She would suck for a millisecond and then spit it out at us and continue crying.

I went to Target multiple times to get different ones, we tried Dr. Browns, NUK, and Tommee Tippee.

The winner was Tommee Tippee. That was the only pacifier she would keep in her mouth.

Still to this day (April 2020) she prefers the Tommee Tippee binkies. She will find a random one that we missed throwing away or that my oldest uses for her baby dolls and spits it right back out.

Tommee Tippee does have multiple different ones for ages and even a nighttime soother that gives a subtle glow for the dark so they can find if it falls out during sleep.

The tommee tippee newborn pacifier was definitely the one that saved the day when she was little.

Your little one might like another brand, but these tommee tippee night time soothers were easy to find at Target and relatively inexpensive.

PROS:

  • different sizes as they grow
  • multiple colors and style design choices
  • available mostly everywhere
  • inexpensive $11 for 4 pack
  • comes in packs of multiples
  • nighttime soother gives subtle glow to find in dark
  • orthodontic approved

CONS:

  • no real cons, it just all depends on what your baby prefers

Your newborn may prefer a different brand but definitely test this one out before purchasing a bunch of different brands and give it a few tries. Some babies do not take to pacifiers right away!
