Everyone always asks, reusable swim diapers or disposable ones? Which are most cost effective? Which are better? How does a swim diaper work?
I’m here to help answer those questions.
First off, reusable swim diapers are diapers that your baby or un-potty trained toddler can wear in water.
They are designed to hold all your baby’s disposable waste in the diaper instead of ending up with floating turds in the water.
Plus bonus, they can be washed and reused! That’s the beauty of them!
No more purchasing packages of disposable swim diapers in packs of 30 for $10 a pack!
You can get reusable swim diapers for around $10 depending on design and material you prefer. I used these i.play brand of reusable ones for both of my kiddos!
Another reason to purchase, some community pools and swim schools are now requiring reusable swim diapers as opposed to disposable ones for sanitary reasons.
Plus you will end up spending more money buying disposable ones over and over depending how often you go swimming than you would just buying a one time use reusable one.
Now a lot of people question the fact that if your baby poops in the reusable one, then you have to essentially wash it before you can reuse and reenter the pool.
Part of that is definitely true, but if you are out and don’t want to leave the pool, here is what you can do instead.
Just go to the bathroom, clean baby up and throw the poop into a toilet and wash off the diaper in the sink.
It will come right off and then you can get a little soap from the dispenser and give it a quick hand wash before putting back on baby. Now you can go back and enjoy your swimming activities.

While yes disposable ones have more of a convenience factor if that above situation does happen, you can throw away and put another back on. But you will spend way more money in the long run than just putting in a bit more work if that situation happens.
Another option is to get both. I have done that before as well. I have gotten one pack of disposable ones to use if we are out in public pools (if they allow it) or if we are at a friends house and they prefer it. But if we are at our house swimming, then I will use the reusable ones and save the disposable ones for “special situations”.
Hopefully this comparison has helped you decide which is best swim diaper for your family and how swim diaper works. Overall while I do use both types of diapers for certain situations, I do prefer the reusable swim diapers for babies.
