I have heard about this Mifold booster seat from social media and google searches. I always wondered if they were safe, legal, and cost-effective.
So I decided to give it a try and purchase one and test it myself.
Our family has a trip coming up and carrying around 2 carseats is quite the task. Anything to make traveling with kids easier, I’m for it!
First off, the Mifold booster is very cost-effective! I purchased off Amazon for under $30. Which makes this the cheapest carseat I’ve ever bought.
But the true test is if it is safe and if it works.
Mifold booster claims to bring the seatbelt down to the child’s level instead of a traditional booster bringing the child up to the seatbelt level.
The Mifold booster is certified for use in motor vehicles but not on aircrafts. Which was fine for us, as I just needed it to travel with to be able to use in the cars.
So how this Mifold booster works is you unfold it and place on the seat, then you expand the outer red tabs to fit the seat and child perfectly (which is comes with instructions/images on how to properly fit this).
Then you weave the buckle through the red tabs which have slots to loop in the belt. Then you bring the back red strap up and clip it on to the chest belt part and bring it down to your child’s shoulder level (as shown below).
After this is in place, you are set to go.
I will be perfectly honest, I was a little weary about it. It doesn’t seem as sturdy and heavy duty as a 5 point harness carseat. But then again, us adults and older kids just use the seatbelt so it was just an adjustment for me.
The Mifold booster worked, kept my daughter in place and safe while we took a quick test drive around the neighborhood.
I will say, I personally wouldn’t use it in replacement as a normal carseat, but this would definitly work for travel, in emergency situations, or a quick fix if grandma is picking up.
It folds super compact to be able to fit in a backpack or diaper bag which is super handy.
Mifold booster minimum age requirement is 4 years old, 40-100 lbs, and 40-57″ tall.
Installation of the Mifold booster was quick and easy to get them buckled, but it would be a pain to take them in and out during errands as you have to weave the seat belt through the red tabs each time you buckle them in. Especially if you have young kids who don’t know how to weave the buckle themselves.
Older kids would probably be fine to weave and buckle themselves in without a problem.
Overall this would be perfect for traveling, car rentals, if you have multiple kids in carseats 3 in a row, carpooling, or for grandparents house.
It is very portable and compact which is the main reason I purchased the Mifold booster and will be using it during our trip out of state.
